Who says a box has to be square?
Forget straight lines, sharp corners, and predictable shapes. With a narrow blade that can navigate surprisingly tight curves, a bandsaw lets me create boxes that twist, swoop, and flow in all sorts of unexpected directions. Some turn out graceful and elegant, others are delightfully quirky, but every one has its own personality. And that's where things get interesting!
The shapes are only half the fun. By layering different species of wood, like light-colored maple between darker walnut or cherry, I can create beautiful contrasting stripes that follow every curve and contour. It's a little like sculpting with wood, except the colors and grain become part of the design itself. There's something wonderfully whimsical about bandsaw boxes, and that speaks directly to my creative side. I love seeing where the wood takes me, and ending up somewhere I never expected.
After all, every project is a new adventure!
